Step behind the scenes and see the Barbican Theatre from a new perspective on our 60-minute Backstage Tour.

Discover how the architects ingeniously integrated the theatre into the Barbican’s design, and hear stories and secrets from past productions as you explore the colourful maze of backstage floors.

Peek into the stage wings, Green Room, orchestra pit and more. Take a closer look at set design mechanisms and the technology that brings every performance to life. Highlights include the impressive fly tower – a specialist hoisting system used to change sets high above the stage.

Our next Theatre productions are the RSC's Wendy & Peter Pan and Twelfth Night – and you might just uncover some fun behind-the-scenes facts about them along the way.

Taking you above, beneath and behind our renowned stage, the Backstage Tour offers a fascinating new way to experience the Barbican’s iconic Theatre.

  • Tour duration: 60 minutes
  • Please show your e-ticket at the Tours Meeting Point, just outside The Barbican Shop on Level G.
  • Ages: Suitable for ages 12+. Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.
  • This is a working theatre, so the route may vary. You might see rehearsals, set changes or technical preparations taking place – or experience the calm between performances.
  • Photography and filming aren’t permitted in backstage areas or the auditorium.
  • Accessibility:
    The tour route includes stairs and is not fully step-free. If you have access requirements, please get in touch in advance at [email protected] or call 020 7101 1188 (10am–5.30pm, Monday–Sunday).

£1.50 booking fee per online/phone transaction.

No fee when tickets are booked in person.

Booking fees are per transaction and not per ticket. If your booking contains several events the highest booking fee will apply. The booking fee may be reduced on certain events. Members do not pay booking fees.
