Learning from Brazil

Pedro Thiago Silva

Join us for an evening exploring architecture, community, and resistance through a Brazilian lens, featuring lectures from Gabriela de Matos and collectives Ruina and Arquitetura na Periferia.

Gabriela de Matos is an architect and urban planner whose award-winning work centres Black Brazilian heritage, memory, and the decolonisation of space.

Ruina is a collective based in São Paulo, creating experimental architectural installations and publications that interrogate urban transformation and decay.

Arquitetura na Periferia is a women-led initiative based in Belo Horizonte that empowers residents of peripheral neighbourhoods to design and build their own homes through collective action.

Together, these practitioners share innovative, socially grounded approaches that challenge conventional models of architectural practice. Join us to hear how they are reshaping the built environment from the ground up.

Learning from Brazil is supported by the public discourse programme at re:arc institute.

The Architecture Foundation, in association with the Barbican, presents Architecture on Stage – a programme of talks by the world's leading architects.
