A Real Pain (AD) (15)

Two middle-aged men stare skywards.

Two cousins embark on a tour of Poland in honour of their beloved Jewish grandmother.

Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and Kieran Culkin (Succession) are mismatched Jewish American cousins who travel to Europe in an attempt to honour the memory of their late grandmother and reconnect with their heritage. Culkin delivers a hilarious performance (he recently won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor), while Eisenberg also wrote and directed the film.

It's a comedy-drama that skilfully combines humour and warmth with a nuanced and sometimes painful exploration of family history, love and loss. The cast also includes Will Sharpe (The White Lotus) and Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing).
