Whiplash - In Concert

Summer Jazz Series

Whiplash screened behind a live band

Immerse yourself in the cut-throat world of a prestigious New York jazz school & rediscover Damien Chazelle’s masterpiece on a big screen with a live performance of Justin Hurwitz’s soundtrack.

Performed in perfect synchronisation with the film, Benoît Sourisse and André Charlier’s brilliant Multiquarium Big Band face the same challenging task as Andrew (Miles Teller); following every baton movement with total precision, showcasing at its peak the art of films in concert.

Justin Hurwitz & Damien Chazelle are long time collaborators and have worked together on Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench (2009), La La Land (2016), First Man (2018) and Babylon (2022) which have earned them global recognition and numerous awards.

Whiplash follows Andrew, who is chasing dreams of becoming one of the best jazz drummers of his generation. Facing the fierce competition he trains diligently before he is noticed by Terence Fletcher, a demanding and uncompromising professor. When Fletcher finally takes notice, Andrew embarks on a quest for excellence.

The screening in this performance has been certified 15.

Running time: 8:00pm - 10:20pm, with 20 minute interval.

Produced by the Barbican.

Part of the Summer Jazz Series.
