The Sixteen: Monteverdi Vespers

The Sixteen Choir, standing in a room

World renowned ensemble The Sixteen brings one of the cornerstones of the classical repertoire, Monteverdi’s monumental Vespers of 1610, back to London after a sell-out UK tour in 2019.

Famed for its thrilling rhythms, grand choruses and beautiful solo movements, The Sixteen’s founder and conductor Harry Christophers says ‘the Vespers is one of the most significant collections of sacred music ever written, mixing profound expression with unfailing musical beauty. We will follow Monteverdi’s dictum recitar cantando - speak through singing - to maximum effect, bringing this glorious work to life for a 21st century audience’.

★★★★ ‘…these musicians achieved a magical balance between the extroversion of performance and the introspection of prayer.’ Financial Times on The Sixteen’s performance of Monteverdi Vespers

★★★★ ‘I was hooked, flipped upside down, dazzled’ The Arts Desk on The Sixteen’s performance of Monteverdi Vespers
