Pariah (15)

Barbican Outdoor Cinema Mastercard Ticket Package

Two women cuddle on bed in a softly lit bedroom, smiling.

Dee Rees’ beautiful debut film stars Adepero Oduye as a teenage lesbian living in Brooklyn, who falls hard for a girl in her church group and struggles with her relationship with her family.

One of modern cinema’s great debuts, Pariah is a heartfelt portrait of Black lesbian life, whose importance and legacy has increased since its release.

Adepero Oduye plays a young poet who finds support from her friend Laura (Pernell Walker). Alike struggles with her mother (Kim Wayans), but finds escape through a relationship with girl.

Boasting beautiful cinematography, Pariah is a landmark queer film from Dee Rees.
