London Symphony Orchestra/Thomas Adès

Adámek & Beethoven, with Isabelle Faust

Isabelle Faust

Composers being playful: early Beethoven's wit and jokes pair with a cat-and-mouse chase around the orchestra from Ondřej Adámek.

Beethoven’s First and Fourth Symphonies are witty and elegant. Yet there are moments which foretell the bold, stormy symphonies that would follow, such as the opening for the First’s finale, and the assertive horn blasts in the Fourth’s Scherzo. Ondřej Adámek’s invitation to Follow Me results in a teasing, increasingly wild imitation game between soloist and orchestra.

Composer and regular LSO collaborator Thomas Adès conducts the Orchestra in this compelling programme, and the brilliant violinist Isabelle Faust joins them for Adámek’s playful Concerto.

Change of Conductor
Conductor François-Xavier Roth has withdrawn from his engagements with the London Symphony Orchestra in the 2024/25 season. The LSO is grateful to Thomas Adès for stepping in to conduct the Barbican concerts on 30 and 31 October. The programmes for these concerts will remain as originally planned.

This performance will end at approximately 9.10pm, including a 20-minute interval (timings subject to change).

Produced by the London Symphony Orchestra. Promoted as part of the 28th Made In Prague Festival
