Family Concert: Once Upon a Tune

with Britten Sinfonia

Illustration from James Mayhew's book Once Upon A Tune: Stories From The Orchestra, depicting a fairy tale castle, and in the sky is a sun with a smiling face.

Live illustration, colourful music and storytelling merge in this magical family concert from author and illustrator James Mayhew and Britten Sinfonia.

Mayhew’s recent book, Once Upon A Tune, is brought to life by Britten Sinfonia, as stories of celebrated pieces of music – including Grieg’s In The Hall of the Mountain King, Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade and Rossini’s William Tell – emerge before our eyes, while Mayhew’s captivating work is projected from his easel on to a big screen.

Once Upon A Tune was the Sunday Times and Guardian Children’s Book of the Year 2021.

This performance will finish at approximately 12.00pm, with no interval
