Champion emerging talent, hear from leading voices and discover your new favourite authors at this family festival that is Europe’s largest celebration of Black literature.

Founded by Selina Brown in 2021, this festival lauds the work of Black British authors across all genres and provides a platform for up-and-coming writers through a host of enlightening talks, panel discussions, children's reading sessions and a major book fair.

This year's spectacular festival will feature a fantastic range of speakers and authors. Grammy® winning rapper Eve shares her journey with the autobiography "Who's That Girl?: A Memoir", Diane Abbott will discuss her experiences in a panel titled "A Woman Like Me," while journalist and presenter Charlene White will lead an insightful session. Big Manny will deliver an exciting talk, "Science is Lit," and activists Mikaela Loach, Tayshan Hayden Smith and Kwajo Tweneboa will explore important social issues. Paul Brunson will also take part, hosting a fireside chat on finding love.

Join us in the Level G foyer for the Black Book Marketplace, open from 10am until 7pm. Come and explore a range of stalls that celebrate our heritage, from rare and self-published books to unique handcrafted goods and exclusive book signings. Free to enter, no ticket required.

Free Cultural Activities at Barbican Library

Visit the Barbican Library on Level 2 for a free programme of arts & crafts, creative writing workshops and performances from 10am until 4pm. Hosted by the Black British Book Festival, come dream up your first novel, design your own cover or simply get stuck into a good book. 

All workshops are drop-in, no ticket required. Programme timings will be released in September.
