Captains of Za'atari (PG) + Introduction

Refugee Week 2023

Still from Captains of Zaatari

The moving tale of boys growing up in a Refugee Camp in Jordan dreaming of becoming football stars.

In collaboration with the UK for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, we host a screening of debut director Ali Elrabi’s incredible documentary Captains of Za’atari.

Two best friends Mahmoud and Fawzi living in the Za’atari Refugee Camp in Jordan have an undying dream of becoming professional soccer players while facing the difficult reality of their lives. Despite being locked in a space that has no facilities or opportunity for training, they remain hopeful and practice day in and day out.

When a world-renowned sports academy visits, both have a chance to make this dream come true.

Introducing the film is Candice Demille-Knight, UK for UNHCR, who recently visited Jordan and the Za’atari camp.
