Chevalier (12A) (AD)

Parent and Baby

A man in period dress leans over a seated woman also in period dress

Kelvin Harrison Jr. brings to life Chevalier de Saint-Georges, the forgotten French-Caribbean composer who rose to the heights of society.

Chevalier is the dynamic period drama about the life and trials of the 18th Century composer Joseph Bologne, the illegitimate son of an enslaved African woman and a European plantation owner in Guadeloupe.

Growing up around the rumbling of the French Revolution, Bologne grew to be an extraordinary composer, and was presented in court to Queen Marie-Antoinette, rising to the highest heights of society.

Directed by Stephen Williams (Watchmen) and written by Stefani Robinson (Atlanta), Chevalier finally brings to light untold life of the black French genius, whose race made his seat at the top as precarious as they come.

Performed stunningly by Kelvin Harrison Jr. (recipient of a Screen Actors Guild Award, BAFTA Rising Star Award, and Indie Spirit Award), who prepared for the roll by dedicating 6 hours a day to violin lessons.
