Members' Screening

A boy sits atop a man's shoulders in a residentual street in a still from A Thousand and One.

A.V. Rockwell's breath-taking debut about a mother fighting to make a home for her son in a slowly gentrifying New York.

Fresh out of prison, Inez makes the decision that her 6-year-old son should be with his mother, not in the foster system. This decision changes the course of their lives. A Thousand and One is the Sundance Grand Jury Winning debut from A.V. Rockwell, about a mom fighting to provide a stable life for her son in New York.

Set within the folds of the city, the film is a gracious portrait of a woman and her child, and of a city that can chew you up and spit you out. Lead by Teyana Taylor (Coming 2 America, and musical collaborator with the likes of Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliot), the cast create a deeply powerful world in the streets of Harlem, with her son Terry (T) being portrayed by Aaron Kingsley Adetola, Aven Courtney and Josiah Cross at 6, 13 and 17 years old respectively.
