Guildhall Studio Orchestra perform Scorched

Guildhall Studio Orchestra guitarist

The Guildhall Studio Orchestra and director Scott Stroman welcome 2023 with a performance of Mark-Anthony Turnage and John Scofield's ground-breaking 2004 collaboration Scorched.

The triumphant collaboration between Mark-Anthony Turnage and saxophonist Martin Robertson, jazz drummer Peter Erskine and guitarist John Scofield with Turnage’s Blood on the Floor suite led to a closer collaboration between Turnage and Scofield, whose music he loves.

Scorched was the result – the title is a derivative of ‘Scofield Orchestrated’ – though the work goes beyond simple arrangement. Rather it is the synthesis of two composers' highly individual but ultimately compatible musical worlds.

“[Scorched] is a ground-breaking triumph... an artful fusion of genres that preserves the blistering dynamism and improvisational essence of jazz while deftly and imaginatively drawing on the resources of a large symphony orchestra." – Chicago Classical Review
