Beau Is Afraid (15) (AD)

Still from Beau Is Afraid

Ari Aster's latest feat is a surrealist epic, in which a paranoid Joaquin Phoenix tries to get home to his mother's, fighting against all his greatest fears.

Ari Aster, the mind behind contemporary horror classics Midsommar and Hereditary, presents his latest. Again backed (and co-produced) by A24, Beau Is Afraid is the epic horror meets tragicomedy in which a mild-mannered yet paranoid Joaquin Phoenix battles his way back to his mother's house.

As bizarre as it is ambitious, Beau Is Afraid is a film of epic scope, with Phoenix's performance, the soundtrack, and even the technicalities of the filming all worth marvelling over.
