Sarah Schulman and Sunil Gupta in Conversation

Art & Queer Resistance

Christopher Street, Credit: Sunil Gupta

In the first of a series of talks organised by Apropos called Highly Opinionated, author Sarah Schulman joins photographer Sunil Gupta to discuss how art can be used as a form of activism.

Drawing parallels on the artists’ work and experiences, they will be discussing art and activism within the sociopolitical context of London and New York in the 80s and 90s, resistance during the AIDS epidemic, and their take on the landscape of queer art and activism today.

This will be the first time Schulman and Gupta will come together to discuss how they have used their work as a form of grassroots organising in the queer sphere. After the talk, there will be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of publications by Schulman and Gupta

Organised by Apropos. Special thanks to the Tribe Canary Wharf hotel for hosting Sarah Schulman.
