The Fall of the House of Usher (PG) (LC)

Silent Film & Live Music

Still from The Fall of the House of Usher

An impressionistic adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s Gothic tale of obsession and madness. With live performance from Stephen Horne (piano, flute, accordion) and Elizabeth-Jane Baldry (harp).

An unnamed man pays a visit to the decaying, aristocratic mansion of his childhood friend, Roderick Usher who is consumed with fear that his beloved wife Madeline will die.

He spends his days painting an eerie portrait of her but with each brush stroke the life seems to drain from her. Starring Jean Debucourt, Marguerite Gance, Charles Lamy, and Fournez-Goffard.

Review

‘On its own, it’s mesmerising. With the accompaniment from Stephen Horne once again, with Elizabeth-Jane Baldry on harp, it’s spine-tingling.‘
