Beginning William Shakespeare’s Wars of the Roses trilogy, Henry VI Part 1 follows a young and reclusive Henry, who is proclaimed King of England after the death of his father. Following his coronation, unease and infighting grow in his court, as several political influences vie for power.

Meanwhile in France, Joan la Pucelle, better known as Joan of Arc, rises up to lead the French army through a historic moment in the Hundred Years War.

Co-directed by RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran and Owen Horsley, Henry VI Part 1 takes audiences headlong through one of the most turbulent periods of English history. Performed as a rehearsal room run through, the immediacy and danger of this performance gives it a fresh, rough dynamic that perfectly suits Shakespeare’s early play.
