Centre for Young Musicians & London Schools Symphony Orchestra

Anniversary Concert

The London School Symphony Orchestra standing on stage in the Barbican Hall holding their instruments

Celebrate the joys of youth with some of London’s exceptional young musicians, as the Centre for Young Musicians and the London Schools Symphony Orchestra honour their double anniversary.

From Mozart to Mendelssohn, musical history is brimming with talented youth. And it doesn’t stop there. The Centre for Young Musicians (CYM) and the London Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO) have made it their mission to nurture the city's budding musicians for 50 and 70 years, respectively. This concert marks the occasion with music as spirited and diverse as the 200 young performers who’ll play it, including Michael Zev Gordon’s Youth, Elgar’s charming Wand of Youth Suite No 2 and Jonathan Dove’s moving cantata There Was a Child.

Joined by conductors Joséphine Korda and Otis Enokido-Lineham, the LSSO, with all their ‘skill, energy and collaborative commitment’ (Evening Standard), unite with the CYM to celebrate a fruitful history of music-making. From school pupils to accomplished alumni, this is a testament to music’s enduring impact.

This performance will finish at approximately 9.10pm, including a 20-minute interval
