Jazz on a Summer's Day (U) + Recorded Content from Green Man Festival

an artist sings into the mic at the Newport Jazz Festival

This incredible concert film captures the sounds and performances of some of the major jazz artists at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival.

Shot in vibrant colour, this documentary concert film features an all-star line-up with artists such as Chuck Berry, Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk, Anita O'Day and Mahalia Jackson

The film is directed by renowned photographer, Bert Stern and first premiered at the 1959 Venice Film Festival. This re-release sees the electrifying concert film brought back to the big screen in style.

The screening includes an exclusive featurette, filmed at the Green Man Festival, featuring interviews with contemporary jazz artists Emma Jean Thackray and Kokoroko. The artists reflect on the influence of the jazz greats on the burgeoning new scene and the resurgence of jazz acts at the top of the charts. It's hosted by film critic and Green Man Festival film curator Jason Solomons
