Guildhall Big Band with Peter Erskine

Peter Erskine

Guildhall School is thrilled to welcome drummer Peter Erskine for a week-long residency, passing on his expertise to Guildhall Jazz musicians, culminating in this special concert.

Peter Erskine has played the drums since the age of four and is known for his versatility and love of working in different musical contexts. He appears on 700 albums and film scores, and has won two Grammy Awards, plus an Honorary Doctorate from the Berklee School of Music (1992). Fifty albums have been released under his own name or as co-leader.

Guildhall Big Band, directed by Matt Skelton, is one of two large jazz ensembles attached to the Jazz Department and aims to create the opportunity to experience the joy of collective ensemble playing. Fresh and enriched from their 2020–21 History of Big Band series, charting the evolution of the big band from its conception to the present day, the ensemble is poised to work with guest artists and directors in the new academic year.
