A double bill of contemporary masters of traditional Indian music.

Son of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, once described by legendary violinist, Yehudi Menuhin as ‘the greatest musician in the world’, Alam Khan is recognised as one of the finest sarod masters in his own right, bringing a searching curiosity to his sensitive, flamboyant playing. Talwalkar provides astonishing rhythmic accompaniment on the tabla, this simple yet versatile set of drums.

A special dhrupad treat comes from Bhawalkar, one of India’s finest singers from the Dagarvani tradition. Playful accompaniment from Singh is on an equally rare instrument called the jori, a set of drums which look like the tabla but sound similar to the pakawaj.
