The Earth Asleep (12A*) + live music

Silent Film & Live Music

As the earth sleeps, past and present merge in this live rhythmic montage.

On Friday 11th March 2011, one of the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded took place 18 miles from the Oshika Peninsula of Japan triggering a massive tsunami that killed over ten thousand people. Visual artist Clara Casian and composer Robin Richards travelled to the village of Otsuchi in remote North-East Japan to observe the experiences of local residents seeking to rebuild their lives and tend to the memories of those they have lost.

The Earth Asleep addresses the ways in which our exposure to extreme live-trauma in the form of rolling news and citizen reportage has resulted in an inability to process grief at a manageable, human scale. Film, poetry and live music intertwine to conjure a pathway by which the human soul might navigate unseen astral dimensions.
