Queen & Slim (15)

+ Black British Talent in the US Panel Discussion

people standing in front of a burning car

British actors Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith star in this hotly awaited US drama about a couple's first date that takes an unexpected turn.

Queen (Turner-Smith) and Slim (Kaluuya) are travelling home when they’re pulled over by the police. What follows is an unexpected and completely riveting journey across the country, kickstarted by an injustice which thunderously echoes the horrendous experiences of too many black Americans at the hands of the law.

Directed by Melina Matsoukas – this drama is frequently dreamlike and beautiful, whilst never forgetting the danger our characters find themselves in or the injustice that started it all.

The panel, hosted by Simon Frederick, will explore issues of structural bias within the British film industry, opportunities for black British talent in the US, and issues of representation across cultures. Joining Simon on the panel is producer Jasmin Morrison and writer/actor Steve Toussaint.
