Antonio Banderas is Salvador Mallo, a successful film director suffering with physical and emotional pain that riddles his mind and body. As he falls in to hopelessness he reflects upon his life and childhood, always returning to a particularly significant figure, his mother (Penélope Cruz and Julieta Serrano).
