Igor Levit plays Messiaen and Shostakovich

Igor Levit shadow portrait

Everything that Igor Levit plays is worth hearing, but this is something out of the ordinary: our Featured Artist performs a revelatory chamber version of Shostakovich’s haunted final symphony.

That’s right – the complete Fifteenth Symphony, in a pared-down transcription for piano trio plus percussion. Shostakovich’s enigmatic final vision might seem like a curious pairing for Messiaen’s ecstatic vision of the infinite, but both works deal with transience and eternity viewed from very different but equally personal perspectives. Trust Igor Levit to bring them together: his peerless musicianship will do the rest.

This performance will end at approximately 9.45pm, including a 20 minute interval.
