Parent & Baby Screening: Wild Rose (15)

Wild Rose

Rising star Jessie Buckley gives a funny, charming and star-making performance in this story about a young mother from Glasgow, dreaming of a life in Nashville.

Rose-Lynn Harlan (Buckley) is a great country singer. Unfortunately, she’s also an ex-con just released from prison, with an electronic tag, two young children to support, and a disapproving mother (Julie Walters). And, she’s based in Glasgow.

Yet, after taking a job as a housekeeper for a wealthy neighbour – beautifully played by Sophie Okenedo – she finally meets people who take her talent and ambition seriously, and she begins a journey that might just make her dreams come true, against the odds.

Never trite or saccharine, this is an underdog story with real heart, humour and pathos, with excellent performances and an irresistible country music soundtrack.
