Nothing to Lose (15*) + ScreenTalk with Kelli Jean Drinkwater, Liberty Antonia Sadler and Scottee

Part of Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest

a dance troupe of dancers with larger bodies dances some choreography in a dark room

An unapologetic and infectiously joyful documentary celebrating fat bodies in motion that dismantles cultural projections about empowerment, sexuality, and who gets to take up space.

Born from the desire to bring fat, queer bodies on to the stage, Kate Champion, artistic director of Australian dance company Force Majeure, enlists filmmaker and activist Kelli Jean Drinkwater to help assemble a troupe of dancers with larger bodies to devise a dance piece from their lived experience. The collaboration resulted in Nothing to Lose, a celebrated artistic movement piece: a breakout hit at 2015’s Sydney Festival.

Drinkwater brings to life the troupe’s incredible bonding experience as they work through the choreographic process, challenge unaddressed issues of fatphobia in the queer community, engage in conversations about publicly being fat and enact beautiful moments of self-reclamation.

The screening is followed by a panel with filmmakers Kelli Jean Drinkwater, Liberty Antonia Sadler and special guest Scottee.
