Lasso: Lagrime di San Pietro

Los Angeles Master Chorale

LA Master Chorale 2018 on stage

Peter Sellars directs a haunting dramatization of Orlando di Lasso’s Tears of St Peter: renaissance madrigals of sorrow and remorse, given a contemporary setting of quietly shattering power.

‘The deadliest arrows that pierced his heart were the eyes of the Lord, when they fixed on him…’

How does any human come to terms with betraying a loved one – or with their own flawed nature? Peter Sellars takes these themes and Lasso’s heart-breaking music imagining the suffering of St Peter as the starting point for a theatrical meditation grounded in our own shared contemporary experience. And if you’ve seen any of his collaborations with Simon Rattle and the LSO, you’ll know exactly how revelatory this could be.

The performance is expected to finish around 9.30pm, with no interval. Please note latecomers will not be permitted entry to the hall.

Pre-concert talk, 6.45pm
