Shopping on the high street has never been as gloriously grotesque as in British indie director Peter Strickland’s darkly comedic story of a killer dress.

In Fabric may ostensibly be a horror film but it is the sardonic humour and portrayal of an ‘everywoman’ character caught in a web of strange antagonists, and in this case, even stranger wardrobe malfunctions, that grabs your attention.

At a high street department store that is better suited to a unit in the Twilight Zone, Sheila (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) chooses herself a beautiful new red dress, its brightness burning through the screen, past the 70’s surrealist aesthetic. Of course, this is no ordinary dress, and Sheila is just the first of three victims to be ensnared in its grisly agenda.

'In Fabric is beautiful in the detail - nerve-shredding sound, hypnotic imagery – there is nothing out there quite like it.'
