Handel’s Messiah

Freiburg Baroque Orchestra

Freiburg Baroque Orchestra standing black wall

One of the most distinguished ensembles in Baroque music give our annual Christmas performance of Handel’s joyous and uplifting oratorio.

For many, Christmas begins with the final few bars of a traditional festive Messiah performance. But it’s more than just a British seasonal fixture – it’s a landmark of European culture. With Trevor Pinnock at the harpsichord, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and a youthful international cast, it’ll come up as fresh as new paint.

Pinnock has an impressive history with Messiah: his 1988 recording was pioneering in its approach and has since become a classic. Three decades on, his vision of this great choral retelling of the life of Christ has matured and deepened, but these are performers who always have something distinctive to say in a masterpiece that always has something new to offer.

This performance will end at approximately 9.50pm, including a 20 minute interval.
