Diana Damrau sings Strauss's Four Last Songs

Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra/Jansons

Diana Damrau 2018 close up

Bring together Diana Damrau, Mariss Jansons, and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for Strauss’s final masterpiece, and the words ‘dream team’ don’t even begin to cover it.

With its lustrous, burnished sound, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra – from Richard Strauss’s home town of Munich – is surely the Strauss orchestra par excellence. Add the voice of Diana Damrau and this performance of the Four Last Songs should be very special indeed.

We could hardly have a series devoted to Strauss without these four haunting masterpieces – and it’s hard to imagine more sympathetic partners for Diana Damrau than Jansons and his orchestra. One critic described their last appearance at the Barbican as ‘a golden evening’, and their performance of Strauss’s epic, autobiographical Ein Heldenleben will show you exactly why.

The performance is expected to finish around 9.15pm, including a 20 minute interval.
