Carousel Textile Artists – London Threads

A Barbican Library Foyer Exhibition

An example of textile work by the group Carousel

Textile art group Carousel explore their London stories in colourful textile art.

Carousel is a group of textile artists who met at a London college. For the ‘London Threads’ exhibition Carousel’s members challenged themselves to think beyond the surface and using a firm foundation in textile technique each artist has developed an individual theme. Inspirations include a court dressmaker, designs for train fabrics, hidden rivers, London skyline, pavements and textile and clothing history.  Techniques used include printing, dyeing, weaving, knitting, shibori, machine and hand embroidery. Colour plays a large part in the work and the interplay of colour and texture informs the finished pieces.
