Brutalist Lino Printing Workshop with Jamie Temple

Image of Temple Prints Brutalist Lino Print Workshop with Jamie Temple

Translate the big, bold and beautiful shapes of our Brutalist architecture in this lino printing workshop led by Jamie Temple of Temple Prints.

This workshop gives insight into the linocutting process and introduces the techniques, tools, methods and materials used to create a collection of handmade prints.

It will kick off with a 45 minute Architecture Tour (included), where you can find inspiration in the many surfaces and textures of the Barbican Centre and Estate.

First, you'll draw and plan your design. Starting with one block of lino you will make a single colour lino print, practicing with different cutting tools and ways of printing before introducing a second and third layer of colour.

  • All materials are provided
  • No experience required
  • Workshop duration: 5 hours
  • Maximum capacity: 15
  • The Architecture Tour will predominantly take place outside. Please be prepared for all weather conditions
  • Please consider what you might like to print prior to the workshop to allow maximum time for cutting and printing. Feel free to bring along brutally-inspired sketches or photographs as additional inspiration.
  • This workshop has an age restriction of 16+
  • You'll be using water based inks which are safe and easy to clean up and you will be provided with an apron, but we recommend that you do not wear your best clothes – just to be safe

Building the Brutal

Photographer Peter Bloomfield was commissioned by the Barbican to document the final stages of building's construction. His beautiful images - which have never been shared with the public - capture the astonishing scale of the construction effort.
