BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert: Les Sonores de France

Carolyn Sampson & Joseph Middleton

Carolyn Sampson

The lyrical and expressive gifts of 20th-century composers from France are the focus of this lunchtime concert, sung by soprano Carolyn Sampson.

Carolyn Sampson is a leading British soprano – ‘one of the wonders of the operatic world’, according to The Independent – but she’s no stranger to French music, with a recent recording of French Baroque arias to her name. To continue BBC Radio 3’s series inspired by the melodies, sounds and musical voices of France, she turns to composers of the 20th century – including Debussy and Fauré – and the charm and expression that they poured into their settings of French verse.

Recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3
