Atlantics (15*) + ScreenTalk with director Mati Diop

Reclaim the Frame

A young woman, Ada, looks directly into the camera in Mati Diop's Atlantics

After a group of unpaid construction workers disappears at sea one night in search of a better life abroad, the women they have left behind in Dakar are overwhelmed with a mysterious fever.

Ada, 17, secretly grieves for her love Souleiman, one of the departed workers, but she has been promised to another man. After a fire breaks out on her wedding night, a young policeman is sent to investigate the crime.

Winner of the Grand Prix at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, this film marks the feature narrative debut of director Mati Diop.

This event is present by the Birds’ Eye View, Reclaim The Frame project. Following the film, Mati Diop joins us for a ScreenTalk, hosted by award-winning poet and director of The Caramel Film Club, Be Manzini and features an introduction by the organisation’s Director-At-Large and Oscar winning producer, Mia Bays
