Soundhouse: The Listening Body

illustration of people listening to music

We dance to music but do we dance to spoken word?

Whether or not we notice it, most of us listen to the radio or podcasts in motion, whether doing the dishes, commuting or walking in the park. This workshop will ask participants to explore what happens when we focus our attention on the way we listen with our bodies.

Combining collective listening with a movement workshop, this session will include a discussion where participants can feedback about their experience. You will choose the range of movement you work with, there will be no right and wrong and best of all: you don't need to be good at dancing to enjoy moving to the radio...

In collaboration with Jess Shane from Constellations.

Participants will receive a copy of the printed guide accompanying Soundhouse: The Listening Body (worth £4) featuring newly-commissioned essays and illustrations.

What might a cinema for audio look like? We explore ideas around collective listening and the physicality behind listening to audio in a collection of essays by audio-makers and academics, commissioned as part of the Soundhouse project.
