Parent & Baby Screening: The Shape of Water (15)

Octavia Spencer and Sally Hawkins star in The Shape of Water

Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s LabyrinthPacific Rim) returns with this unusual aquatic love story between an amphibian man and a shy, mute cleaner working at a top secret government facility.

Elisa (Sally Hawkins) lives a quiet and contained life, friends with her next-door neighbour Giles (Richard Jenkins) and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer).

Yet, with the arrival of an amazing, Amazonian river man (Doug Jones) at her workplace, her extraordinary ability to communicate leads them to forge a deep understanding and romantic connection. Standing in their way is the sour bully Strickland (Michael Shannon), a government official determined to stop the amphibian man from falling into the wrong hands at the height of the Cold War.

Brilliant, romantic and adventurous, this latest fantasy from del Toro features a stellar turn from Hawkins at its heart and as ever, an incredible performance behind the make up from Jones.
