International Competition Programme 2: Animated Documentaries + Q&A with filmmakers (15*)

London International Animation Festival 2018

Conan O'Brien discusses “We’re Going to be Friends” by the White Stripes part of LIAF's Animated Documentaries

Persuasive, illustrative and able to get over abstract details in attractive and compelling ways, animation is the perfect tool to document someone’s vision of the truth.

We have noticed an upwards trend in this genre over the last 12 months and to highlight this there are two Animated Documentaries programmes in competition this year – also see Animated Documentaries 2.

This programme features true life stories including the Velvet Underground’s disastrous first public performance, people trying to make sense of Brexit, some serious musings on overcoming anorexia, growing up with a Downs Syndrome brother and many other powerful and absorbing tales.

There is an onstage discussion with several of the filmmakers after the screening. Panellists will be revealed in November.
