Journeyman (15)

A still from Paddy Considine's Journeyman

Paddy Considine follows up his directorial debut Tyrannosaur with the story of a boxer rebuilding his life after a near-fatal injury.

Champion boxer Matty Burton (Considine) faces the dilemma common to many aging sportsman – that of when to stop. His lucrative pension pot is a last bout to safeguard his title against the younger, unremittingly gobby Andre ‘The Future’ Bryte. Although clearly outclassed, Matty wins the fight on points, but suffers serious head injuries.

When he regains consciousness, his memory is gone, his personality dramatically altered and his physical movements impaired. As his relationship with wife Emma (the always fantastic Jodie Whittaker) becomes increasingly strained, Matty must attempt to piece his life together and claw back the things he once held so dearly.
