Brahms and Beethoven

London Symphony Orchestra/Bernard Haitink

Bernard Haitink

Bernard Haitink, a conductor revered by musicians and listeners alike, delves into the Romantic world of Brahms and Beethoven.

Haitink’s performances reveal the experience of a lifetime spent making music, engaged in both the greatest works of the repertoire and in forging enduring musical partnerships. Two such partnerships are with the LSO and pianist Emanuel Ax, and this concert brings these musicians together on one stage.

They turn to the world of the Romantic era, and two of its towering figures – Brahms and Beethoven. The mood is one of intensity and drama in the former’s Third Symphony, before the outgoing energy of the aptly-nicknamed ‘Emperor’ Concerto concludes the concert in a burst of grandeur.
