Gewandhausorchester Leipzig: Beethoven and Bruckner

Conducted by Herbert Blomstedt

Herbert_Blomstedt

The Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Herbert Blomstedt and three star soloists play Beethoven – and Bruckner’s rapturous Seventh Symphony.

With over three centuries of exceptional music-making behind it, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig has the great German symphonic tradition in every fibre of its collective being. Few ensembles understand Beethoven and Bruckner more instinctively, and Blomstedt’s command in this music is beyond compare.

Now 90 years old, he’s a true master, and his insights in the vast expanses of Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony – supposedly inspired by a dream of an angel – will be intensely worth hearing. Beethoven’s Triple Concerto is altogether lighter in spirit, though with Blomstedt partnering the solo ‘dream team’ of Gerstein, Kavakos and Capuçon, it has the potential to become something truly life-affirming.
