An black and white image of a man open mouthed, as he concentrates on putting on mascara
6 May 2020

Reflecting on the life of celebrated photographer, Peter Hujar, Stephen Koch, Director of the Peter Hujar Archive, discusses the work and legacy of his dear friend.

Hujar's intimate black-and-white portraits, nudes, cityscapes and still-lives memorialise New York’s downtown bohemian scene from the late 1960s through to the onset of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s.

This talk took place on 21 February 2020 at the Barbican, London as part of the exhibition, 'Masculinities: Liberation through Photography'.
