In this week’s archive edition we return to 2017 and take time to discover, or re-discover, director Sean Baker’s film – The Florida Project

In the shadow of Disney World, in a rundown motel, a mother fights to survive and bring up her daughter.

Over one summer we follow six year old Moonee (Brooklynn Prince), a precocious and profanity-spouting six year-old, who lives with her hell raiser mother Halley (Bria Vinaite) at the Magic Castle Motel Moonee (Brooklynn Prince), a precocious and profanity-spouting six year-old, lives with her hell raiser mother Halley (Bria Vinaite) at the Magic Castle Motel – run by Bobby, played by Willem Dafoe.

Sean previously made a big impression with his breakout indie hit, Tangerine, another portrait of the under-seen fringes of American life. This time he creates a vivid picture of life beneath the poverty line.

From the Archive sees us dig into our extensive contemporary and classical music and cinema podcast archive as we rediscover interviews and discussions with artists, with our long-standing producer and presenter, Ben Eshmade.
