Explore Virtual Realms

Vortic virtual exhibition
26 Apr 2023

We've partnered with Vortic and digital artist Jason Ramanah, to present the ground-breaking exhibition, Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed as an online experience.

The exhibition launched at the ArtScience Museum in Singapore and then moved to the Western Australia Museum in Perth, before continuing its global tour. By hosting a digital model of Virtual Realms online, we invite you to engage with the exhibition and explore its spaces and content. The exhibition can also be experienced in virtual reality with an Oculus headset where visitors can interact with each other in the virtual environment. Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed is an exhibition that explores video games. Across six immersive installations, visitors can engage with interactive landscapes and collaborative forms of play. Curated in partnership with game designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi, this exhibition showcases six interactive commissions designed by six of the world’s most influential videogame studios - KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS (Japan), Enhance (Japan), David OReilly (US), thatgamecompany (US), Media Molecule (UK) and Tequila Works (Spain) - working in partnership with cutting-edge media designers including Marshmallow Laser Feast, Rhizomatiks and FIELD.IO.

Our Barbican Immersive programme develops and curates exhibitions focused on contemporary culture, emerging technology and digital creativity. Immersive and experiential, these major shows then travel internationally. Details on the current programme can be found here.
