Parent & Baby Screening: On the Basis of Sex (12A)

Shot of business-people in lift

Inspired by the true story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Felicity Jones), On the Basis of Sex tells the story of a young Ruth as she takes on her first ground-breaking case.

A new mother who graduated top of her law class, Ruth is faces adversity in her drive to land a job. Eventually working with her husband, attorney Martin Ginsburg (Armie Hammer), Ruth takes on a groundbreaking tax case that she knows could change the direction of her career and the way the courts view gender discrimination.

A glass ceiling-shattering legal figure who has become a vocal opponent to Trump in recent years, the story of her early years is a fascinating picture of just how many hurdles she had to overcome to become the legal powerhouse she is today. The film also chronicles the storybook-like romance between Ruth and Marty, a partnership that succeeded both personally and professionally.

Superb support performances from Kathy Bates, Justin Theroux and Sam Waterston (Law & Order).
