La Mer

London Symphony Orchestra/Susanna Mälkki

Susanna Mälkki conductor

Susanna Mälkki brings together a musical kaleidoscope of folklore, light and the ocean.

Folkloric and expressive melodies lace together Dvořák’s Violin Concerto, performed by multiple Grammy-award winning Gil Shaham. Inspired by filmography, Kaija Saariaho’s ever-evolving soundscape of Laterna Magica creates feelings and imagery that move from one to the next, before the idea can be clasped – just like a dream.

The evening ends as we submerge ourselves in the waves of Debussy’s La mer, and its daring impressionistic harmonies and colourful undercurrents.

Duration to be confirmed closer to the event. It includes a 20 minute interval.
