Mahler Symphony No 1

New York Philharmonic

New York Phil performing

See a small piece of music history, as Jaap van Zweden makes his first London appearance as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic.

By taking up the reigns at the New York Phil, van Zweden stepped into a tradition that extends back to Mahler himself. So naturally, they open their two-concert residency with Mahler’s barnstorming First Symphony.

This partnership is big news in the USA, with even the mass media speculating on the direction that van Zweden will take with this most distinguished of US orchestras. Over two nights of Mahler here at the Barbican, you can judge for yourself – and tonight, enjoy the fantastic bonus of Daniil Trifonov in Mozart’s celebratory Piano Concerto No 25.

End-time to be announced nearer the event.
