Budapest Festival Orchestra and Sir András Schiff

Beethoven 250

Andras Schiff at piano on stage

In the first of four concerts celebrating Beethoven’s Piano Concertos, Sir András Schiff joins the BFO and Iván Fischer in the enigmatic, poetic Fourth – a true meeting of musical minds.

There are great orchestras, and then there’s the Budapest Festival Orchestra: a byword for communication, virtuosity and passion. Fischer and his handpicked players frame the Beethoven with Dvořák both familiar – the tragic Seventh Symphony – and delightfully unfamiliar.

But throughout it all, you know to expect music-making of unparalleled commitment and beauty. As The Spectator put it in 2018: ‘The sense of an orchestra actually enjoying themselves, wanting to communicate this joy as directly as possible, the generosity and talent and spirit of it all is quite overwhelming’.

This performance will end at approximately 9.20pm, including a 20 minute interval.
