The Ice Tower (15)

Marion Cotillard reigns supreme in Lucile Hadžihalilović’s glacially beautiful drama.

Marion Cotillard stars as The Snow Queen in this snowbound exploration of obsession and self-projection set in the 1970s. Directed by Lucile Hadžihalilović, the film follows teenage orphan Léna (Clara Pacini), who escapes her boarding school and awakens on the set of a film adaptation of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen.

Immersed in this ambiguous space between performance and reality, Léna becomes entwined with the production and its star. As the boundaries between role, desire and identity erode, Hadžihalilović offers a nuanced exploration of how spectatorship, authorship, and cinematic illusion shape and transform the viewer’s experience.
