The Iron Giant + Introduction from Michael Leader (U*)

Family Film Club x Animation at War

the iron giant crouching over a young boy

This 1999 animation, directed by Brad Bird, will be introduced to young audiences by animation expert, Michael Leader.

When young Hogarth sneaks out one night, he discovers a huge iron robot that has descended from the stars and the two form an unlikely friendship. But the military are hot on the heels of this iron giant and want to catch it for their own gain.

Loosely based on the The Iron Man by Ted Hughes and relocated to a small town in Maine during the Cold War, this heartfelt animation explores the relationship between humans and technology and how true connections can be formed, even in times of uncertainty. Screening as part of the Barbican’s Animation at War season, curated by Michael Leader, who we’re delighted will be on hand to introduce the film.
